CORNERED BY RAY

There’s always the possibility of blood,

When Raymond wants to talk, well he would if only he could.

With one eye on the optics and the other on the till,

The barman pours Raymond his poison,

That seven foot mirror depicting Victorian scenes,

Could go for no reason.

I just popped in for one on the way,

I had no intention to stay,

I don’t always work out quite that way,

When you get cornered by Ray.

There’s never any pleasure had in truce,

“Hate” tattooed on both hands for good measure,

So there’s never any use,

Stooped like a tailor over his port and brandy,

Under a plume of blue fog,

Telling all and sundry of his modus operandi,

And by now my dinners in the dog.

I just popped in for one on the way,

I had no intention to stay,

I don’t always work out quite that way,

When you get cornered by Ray.

There’s every possibility he’ll blame,

Every landlord that’s called in to question the virtue of his name,

The clock on the wall has its eye on us all,

Time gentlemen, please!

Before we can walk we must learn how to crawl,

Or at least stand on our own two knees.

I just popped in for one on the way,

I had no intention to stay,

It don’t always work out quite that way,

When you get cornered,

When you’re cornered by Ray,

Cornered by Ray,

Cornered by Ray,

Cornered by Ray.

SOMETIMES

Sometimes, when I wake up in the morning,

When I hear the neighbours warring

Over some imagined slight,

That kept me up half of the night,

They make it clear no end’s in sight.

I dream, that I’m on some remote island,

I’m king of all this land is my land,

And I rule with an iron rod,

Cracking wise and playing God,

And being everything I’m not.

Sometimes I find,

You’re on my mind,

Sometimes, sometimes,

And sometimes I’m fine.

Somehow, I know it wasn’t always so,

When you were here not long ago,

As the one love I had found,

Peace and harmony did abound,

Laughter at last, the only sound.

Sometimes, shadows dance around my home,

Taunt me ‘til I have to roam,

To a place where I can hide,

Pretend the world is on my side,

Until the memory has died.

CHORUS:

Sometimes, when my mind is free to wander,

I’ll indulge myself to ponder,

On the things that I most miss,

The very life, the very bliss,

The very memory of each kiss.

Night time, has a tendency to try me,

Feeling life is passing by me,

Can’t the gods contrive to send a blessing,

Only they can render,

Your loving arms so tender

CHORUS:
